ATHOL - Pauline R. (Couture) Brouillet, 82, of 123 Orange St., Athol, died Friday, January 30, 2009 in the Health Alliance Leominster Campus, after suffering many set backs following knee surgery in July '07.
She was born in Winthrop, Maine on May 28, 1926, the daughter of the late Rosaire and the late Josephine (Currier) Couture.
Mrs. Brouillet grew up in Maine, graduating from Winthrop High School as Valedictorian of her class in 1944. In 1942 she met a handsome sailor, who was home on leave visiting her brother, Raymond. On December 7, 1946 she would marry this sailor and moved to Athol.
Polly loved music and singing and was a member of the Merritone Lady's singing group in the early 1970's. She also sang with her church choir at Our Lady Immaculate Church. She enjoyed gardening and would keep a vegetable garden every year as well as flowers. She also loved classic films and loved to share them with her family watching TCM.
After raising her children, she worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Council of Aging. Upon her retirement she enjoyed many trips and socializing with her church lady friends, well known as the "7 O'clock Gang".
She leaves three daughters, Donna Brouillet and her partner Linda Guthrie of Greenfield, Barbara Brouillet of Greenfield, Carolyn Brouillet of Athol; five sons, Alan Brouillet and his wife Ellie of Gardner, Dennis Brouillet and his wife Kate of Novato, CA, Lawrence Brouillet and his wife Erica of Royalston, Robert Brouillet of Brookline, MA, William Brouillet and his wife Kelli of Enumclaw, WA; eleven grandchildren, Sherri Noel of Lenexa, KS, Shawn Noel of Warwick, Alisha Valliere and her husband Jason of Erving, Kiley Landry and her husband Scott of Greenfield, Alex Brouillet of San Francisco, CA, Monique Emmons and her husband Patrick of Raleigh, NC, Meglynn Brouillet of Enumclaw, WA, Mark Hamel, Lucas Miner, Micah Miner, Skylar Ryll; five great grandchildren, Savannah Hamel, Anthony Brouillet, both of Gardner, Helanna Valliere of Erving, Rockwell Landry of Greenfield, McKenna Miner; two sisters-in-law, Elnora Couture of Lowell, AR, Eugenia Brouillet of Athol; one brother-in-law, Thomas Gilgut, Sr., of Athol; and several close and loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband of forty years, Raymond V. "Doc" Brouillet, who died on September 26, 1986; and by her two brothers, Raymond Couture and Joseph Couture.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Those attending the Mass are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made, in her memory, to her cousin, the Rev. Real Corriveau of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, a missionary in Haiti, to be mailed to Ms. Barbara Brouillet, 75A Wells St., Apt. 205, Greenfield, MA 01301, or to the Our Lady Immaculate Church Building Fund, 192 School St., Athol, MA 01331.
