ORANGE - Pauline Claire (Rondeau) McHugh, 77, of 50 Brookside Road, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006 following an illness.
She was raised in Somersworth, N.H., the daughter of Apollinaire and Jessie (Houle) Rondeau. After high school she became a registered nurse and later earned her bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire and her master's degree from New England College. Over the course of her career she worked in a variety of healthcare settings, retiring from Worcester State Hospital in 1991.
Upon her retirement, she moved to Orange. Pauline loved living by the Millers River where she always enjoyed the beautiful sunsets. Much of her time was spent reading, knitting, and doing crossword puzzles. She loved animals and had pets most of her life. She also loved to travel and was lucky enough to be able to visit Florida, Hawaii, England and France with her children. She journeyed to Prince Edward Island several times, and was very proud of the cribbage trophies she won while attending McHugh Family Reunions on "the Island". She loved spending time with her family and always looked forward to our annual stay in York Beach, ME.
A communicant of St. Mary's Church, Pauline was an unfailingly kind and generous woman who was sustained by her strong faith.
She is survived by her former husband, Fred McHugh of Lowell, her daughter Brenda McHugh and son-in-law David DeGrand of Worcester, son Paul McHugh of Brighton, daughter Nancy Washburn and son-in-law K.D. Washburn of Orange, son Michael McHugh of Andover, grandchildren; Jessie and Matt Benedetti of Dudley, Toby DeGrand of Worcester, Lindsey Washburn of Orange and her beloved great-grandson Colby Benedetti of Dudley.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, May 21, 2006 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the charity of one's choice.
