Peter J Atter

January 11, 1929 — June 15, 2013

Gardner- Peter J. “Mike” Atter, beloved brother, father and grandfather passed away from this life on Saturday, June 15th, 2013 after a long battle with COPD an MS at the Quabbin Valley Rehabilitation Center in Athol at the age of 84. Mr. Atter was born in Gardner, MA on January 11, 1929, the son of Joseph p. and Lama Tobia Atter. He lived his entire life in Gardner and participated as a parishioner at the Sacred Heart Church regularly. He is survived by his twin brother Edward of Gardner, his younger brother Franklin of Chatham, MA, and his sister Sally (Atter) Jabbour of Westport, RI. Mr.Atter leaves his daughter Bernadette Koram and her husband Joseph Koram, four grandchildren; Scharbel, Angela, John, and Julia, all of Jacksonville, FL. Because of a traumatic birth injury he became disadvantaged early on in his life. Mr. Atter attended several local elementary schools as well as state sponsored educational facilities for the handicapped.  AS years progressed he became an avid bowler winning many trophies in league play at the Gardner Bowlaway. He worked at Atter’s Super Market as a bag boy for many years as well as a farm hand at Atter’s Orchards in Temple, NH where he drove a tractor harvesting picked apples every summer and fall.  Peter was a member of the former Lebanese American Association, a member of the Crystal House Team, as well as an honorary associate of Bag Boys International. In later years, his social agenda included a daily bus ride to the Paramount Café where he drank coffee with his many friends. However, his involvement in the workshop sponsored by the Department of Mental Health was a great source of pride because he “could make things” and building and repairing snow blowers were always a major challenge. Peter will be sadly missed by his family which loves him dearly as well as the many friends whose lives he touched over these past years. “To you Mike, we wish you God’s speed, wherever you are”. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 21, 2013from the Mack Funeral Home 91 Vernon Street, Gardner, MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am at the Sacred Heart Church 166 Cross Street Gardner, MA.
