ATHOL - Peter P. Krustapentus, 86 of 623 Pequoig Ave., Athol, died Sunday, September 9, 2007 at home. He was born in Athol, MA, on March 26, 1921, the son of the late Andrew and the late Salome (Palonis) Krustapentus. He attended Athol schools and graduated from Maher Regional High School evening class in 1962. He served in the U. S. Coast Guard in WWII as a Signalman 3rd Class on the LST-789, seeing action in the invasions of Iwo Jima, Okinawa and the Philippines. He retired from the UTD division of Litton Industries in 1984 after 40 plus years as an order analyst. He was the last president of the UTD 25 year club. Peter was a life member and past commander of the American Legion, VFW and the American Lithuanian Naturalization Club. He served over 20 years as adjutant of the American Legion and was a member of the firing squad for many years. He taught rifle landing to former Jr. ROTC members. He was a past president of the former Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Athol High School Band Association and a member of the Athol Historical Society. Peter was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and was a Lector at Sunday Mass. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed golf. He was a participant in the Dusty League Baseball and Sunday League Softball. Peter also umpired Little League Baseball and Softball as well as being a Little League Manager. Peter had a special interest in helping young people in sports programs. In 2002, Peter was able to fullfill his life long dream of visiting Lithuania with his sons and grandsons. "A hundred years from now it will not matter what kind of car you drove, what kind of house you lived in or how much money you have in the bank. What's most important is that you made a difference in the life of a child." Peter leaves his wife of 61 years: Kathleen (Hutt) Krustapentus; his two sons: Thomas P. and wife Maureen (O'Laughlin) Krustapentus of Nashua, N.H. and Andrew J. Krustapentus of Athol; his daughter: MaryEllen Scribner and husband John C. of Royalston; seven grand children: James Krustapentus and wife Kristen, Kathryn, Michael, Alison and Julie Krustapentus, Jeffrey and Patrick Scribner; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers: Anthony and John Krustapentus; and his four sisters: Stephanie Staciokas, Anna Tamason, Amelia Guidette, and Antoinette Hastings; and his mother-in-law Mary E. Goodale. A Mass of Christian Burial with full Military Honors will be held Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 10:00 am in St. Francis Of Assisi Church, 101 Main St., Athol. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
