ATHOL - Philip David Schmidt, 72, of 97 D Street, Athol, died unexpectedly on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at home after an illness.
Philip was born in Athol on June 21, 1938, the son of the late Louis and the late Ann (Neilson) Schmidt. He was a lifelong resident of Athol and attended local schools. Several years ago, he worked for the Rodney Hunt Company in Orange then worked as a machinist for the former Magnet Company in Northampton for twenty years until his retirement. Philip enjoyed hunting in his younger years and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees.
He leaves his wife of fifty-three years, Nancy (Waslaske) Schmidt; a daughter, Terry Schmidt of Athol; two sons, Timothy Schmidt of Athol, Randy Schmidt of Manhattan, NY; a brother, Alan Aldrich of Athol; three grandchildren, Megan Schmidt, Alyssa and Madyson Bailey all of Athol.
His son, David Schmidt, predeceased him in 2002.
Funeral services will be private and there are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to American Cancer Society's New England Division Office, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
