ATHOL – Phillip D. King, 73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 surrounded by his family at UMASS Medical in Worcester.
Phil was born on September 28, 1943 in Athol to the late George and Melba (MacDonald) King. He lived in Athol all of his life and graduated from Athol High School with the Class of 1962.
Upon graduation, Phil entered the Air Force and then went on to serve as a call firefighter with the Athol Fire Department. He was employed as the Assistant Parts Manger at Newcomb Motors now Orange Chrysler for many years.
He was involved in the restoration of the 1920 Sea Grave ladder truck. Later in life Phil was elected to the Athol Board of Selectman from April 2008 to April of 2014, serving as Chairman during his last term. He was a member of the Athol Masonic Lodge.
Phil enjoyed Sunday morning breakfast with the boys, watching trains roll through town, Sunday morning adventures with Stan and rides with Sammy to hunt bear.
He is survived by his partner of 21 years: Shelly Curtis; his daughters: Dawn King and her partner George, Elaine King and her partner James, Jackie Hill and her husband Bryan, Sandy Colon and her husband Hector, Jaime Sanchez and her husband Cecilio; sons: Peter Coffin, John Duguay and Jed Curtis; grandchildren: Cassy and Jenna Colon, Felicia Howard, Ashley King, Jacob Larmeu, Courtney Hill and Noelia Sanchez; great-grandchildren: Alexia Hahn and Haylee Roberts; brothers: James King and Donald King; several nieces and nephews.
Phil was predeceased by his former wife: Bonnie J. (Stelling) (King) Vorderstrasse.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 19, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be held Sunday, December 18, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
