FREDERICKSBURG - Gene R. LaJoie, 79, of 143 Stony Hill Road, Fredericksburg, VA, and formerly of Gardner, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008 in Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, VA.
He was born in Gardner on June 24, 1928, the son of the late Arthur and the late Lottie (Machen) LaJoie.
He served our country during World War II as a Soldier in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948 reporting for duty at Fort Devens, MA and completing his enlistment at Camp Stoneman, CA. His work career was mainly as an 18-wheel truck driver and he retired in that position from the former S. Bent Bros. Company in Gardner, MA. He was a licensed oil burner installer, and a certified auto and diesel engine mechanic. His many talents and hobbies included restoring antique cars, boats and finish carpentry and riding his John Deere tractor.
Mr. LaJoie leaves his beloved wife of 46 years, Irene (Lesneski) LaJoie. For the past ten years he and his wife have resided with their daughter and son-in law, Karen and John A. Teeple II, in Fredericksburg, VA. He has two daughters, Rebecca Vincent of Richland Heights, OH, and Gina Cormier of New Brunswick, Canada; two brothers; one sister; three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by five brothers and by one sister.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in the spring.
