EOMINSTER- Raphaela A. Picucci, 98, of Leominster, died Wednesday, December 20, in the Life Care Center of Leominster.
She was born January 6, 1919, in Leominster, daughter of the late Giuseppe and Concetta (Lombardi) Picucci and attended Leominster schools. She later attended St. Elizabeth’s College in New Jersey.
She was a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army serving as a combat nurse in North Africa and Italy earning the American Defense Ribbon and two Bronze Stars. After the war, she was assigned as a nurse at the Lovell General Hospital at Ft. Devens. Later she worked at Peter Bent Brigham in Boston and then finished her career at the Bedford Veterans Hospital.
She lived many years at Hampton Beach before returning to Leominster.
She is survived by her brother, Richard Picucci of Leominster; sisters, Margaret Marro of Leominster, Anne Coughlin of FL, and Marian Carluccio and her husband, Leeds of CT; and 25 nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by five brothers, Joseph Jr., Louis, Anthony, Angelo, and Carmine Picucci, and two sisters, Theresa Cully and Rose Carbone.
The funeral Mass will be held Thursday, December 28, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia’s Church, 180 Mechanic St., Leominster. Burial will follow in St. Leo’s Cemetery.
