Raymond J Desolier

Gardner- Raymond J. Desolier, 81, died Monday, May 20, 2013 in Heywood Hospital after being stricken ill at home.  Raymond was born in Gardner on February 8, 1932, the son of the late Raymond and Lillian (Kangas) Desolier. He grew up in Gardner and Attended Gardner High School and also attended Worcester State College and Fitchburg State College where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. He served his country in the United States Army, as a Corporal, during the Korean War fro 1952-1954. When he returned, he worked for the Raytheon Company in Waltham, Simplex Corporation in Westminster, and other companies in Massachusetts as an engineer. Raymond spent much of his time in Cape Cod where he loved to spend time with his wife, he enjoyed swimming, digging for clams, and fishing. Raymond was the past commander of the Gardner American Legion post 129, a member of the Polish American Veterans, a Fourth Degree Knight of the Fitchburg Knights of Columbus, Rabbit Club of Gardner, and St. Joseph’s Church, and was an avid Boston sports fan. Raymond leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Alice (Maciorowski) Desolier of Gardner, one Brother; Roger Desolier of South Gardner, and two nieces; Terri Desolier of Gardner, and Jane Desolier and her husband Kelly McInerney both of Gardner. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 11:00am in St. Joseph Church, 438 Pleasant St. Gardner. The family will receive friends from 10:00am-11:00am in the church. Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 11:00am in the Massachusetts Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St. Winchendon, MA. The family requests that flowers be omitted and donations in Raymond’s name be made to the American Lung Association of New England, 460 Totten Pond road #400, Waltham, MA 02451.
