ATHOL - Raymond F. Edson, Jr., 73 of 70 Garnett Hill Road, Athol, died Thursday, January 12, 2017 at home.
He was born in Athol, on February 26, 1943, the son of the late Raymond F. and the late Amelia (Guignard) Edson.
Ray grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School with the Class of 1961. He received his Associates Degree from Greenfield Community College.
He was part of the apprentice program at Union Twist Drill and worked as an Engineer for U.T.D. for many years until their closing in the early 1980's. He helped start the U.T.D. plant in Gaffney, South Carolina. After U.T.D. he went on to work at Simonds Cutting Tools in Fitchburg as an engineer until 2001. In 2001 he went to work at The Edson Group - Real Estate in Athol until he retired in 2014.
Ray was a member of the Athol-Orange Lodge of Elks, a long- time member of Ellinwood Country Club and served on the Board of Directors of the club for several years. He was a former member of S.T.E.B.S. and served on the Board of Directors of the Athol Little League for several years.
He enjoyed golfing, coffee every morning with friends at Dunkin Donuts and especially "Busting Balls" with any and everyone.
He leaves his wife of 51 years, Sandra U. (Boudreau) Edson; one daughter, Erica R. Edson of Harvard, MA; one son, Michael R. Edson and his wife Michelle of Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Norma Robichaud of Athol and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two daughters, Robyn and Renee Edson and by one brother, Michael Edson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 12:00 pm in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange and Funeral. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 10 - 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Athol Animal Control C/o Animals Fund, 280 Exchange Street, Athol, MA 01331.
