Raymond G. Ellis

ORANGE - Raymond G. Ellis, 81 of 21 Sunset Dr., Orange, formerly of Athol; died Monday, August 6, 2007 in the Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol. He was born in Boston, on April 7, 1926, the son of the late Merrill R. and the late Effie H. (Finney) Ellis. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 during World War II and also form 1950 to 1952. He was employed at the L.S. Starrett Company as a Clerk for fifteen years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Athol Congregational Church. Past Commander of the Athol American Legion Post No. 102; a life member of the American Legion and the Athol V.F.W. He was a former member of the Friendly Indians and Troop #17 Athol Boy Scouts. He was active with the Jumptown Twirlers and the Orange Citizens Police Auxiliary. He leaves his wife of thirty-one years, Barbara J. (Hames) Ellis; two daughters, Candy Harvey of PA, Penny Antoinessn of Lorton, MD; four sons, Darryl Ellis of Orange, Dr. Mark Ellis of Rochester, NH, Michael Ellis of Phillipston, John Ellis of Athol; two sisters, Effie Beverly Goodfield of Athol, Dorothy Lincoln of Middlebury, VT; seven step-children; twenty-four grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Vaida Prudhomme. Funeral services will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Nancy-Hames Picard Memorial Scholarship c/o Athol High School 2363 Main St., Athol, MA 01331.
