ATHOL - Raymond Fournier, age 82, of Greenfield died Monday, July 10, 2017 at Athol Hospital with his family by his side. Raymond was born June 1, 1935 in Fall River. He is the son of the late August W. and the late Beatrice (Peladeau) Fournier.
He grew up in Fall River and graduated from Westport High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1955 until 1959. He continued to serve his country in the Army National Guard for 21 years retiring as Sergeant Raymond Fournier from the Greenfield Unit YD.
Raymond's first employment was working as a psychiatric nurse's aide. He later worked as a custodian at Dexter Park School for many years.
He was a member of the American Legion post 172, where he served as a historian and was also a member of the Orange Lions Club.
He was a very quiet, hard working man who loved to go fishing, take long walks, complete puzzles and paint by number. He also enjoyed reading, channel surfing on the TV and anything to do with the military.
He is survived by one daughter: Jennifer Johnson and her husband Ronald of Millers Falls, and one son: Frank Fournier of Athol; two brothers: Normand Fournier of Fall River and Robert Fournier of Somerset; He also has two grandchildren: Elizabeth and Kyle and one great-grandchild: Tristan.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon.
