ORANGE - Raymond Monroe Haber 89, of 383 East River St., Orange, died on December 1, 2011 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 23, 1922 and was married to Beverly (Rooten) Haber where they raised two sons, Russell Alan Haber and Jonathan Mark Haber.
Before getting married, Ray attended the University of Pennsylvania and had enlisted into the US Air Force during World War II. He served his country for about three years mainly in Africa. While living in Brooklyn he worked as a stockbroker, car salesman, and a Yeshiva school bus driver.
Raymond moved to Orange in 1985 to be close to his granddaughter, Fuschia Lindera Haber and his youngest son, Jonathan. He also was very close to his grandson, Nathan Haber from Columbia, South Carolina, and visited him and his parents, Russell and Karen Cooper-Haber usually during New England's long winters. He was proud of Nathan having recently graduated from Vermont Law School.
Throughout his life and into his eighties, Raymond and his family and friends enjoyed playing tennis together. He also enjoyed working out at the YMCA in Athol, going to the Orange library, and was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels. He also enjoyed having lunch at the Orange meal-site at the armory and appreciated his home at the King James Court on East River Street.
Raymond was also a member of Temple Israel and served on the Board of Directors.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. at the Temple on 107 Walnut Street in Athol. All are welcome.
