ATHOL - Raymond J Hamel, 72 of Athol, died Sunday, January 10, 2016 in the UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester, MA.
He was born in Winchendon and raised in Gardner and Phillipston. Ray worked at Nichols & Stone and at Gem Industries in Gardner and in 1965, went to C&W Metal Fabricators as a welder, where he worked for over 40 years. When C&J closed and went south, Ray went to Raynor in Westminster where he stayed until his retirement.
He enjoyed football, making lasagna for his sons for the super bowl, fishing, chess, pool, riding his motorcycle and loved his cat Mickey.
Ray leaves his wife of 51 years: Sylvia, two sons: Raymond Jr. and his girlfriend of Orange, Jerry and his wife Tammy of Athol; two brothers: Francis Hakinwen and his wife Donna of Baldwinville, Joseph Giampa and his wife Elaine of Phillipston; cousins, second cousins and friends.
A calling hour will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2016 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange.
