ASHBURNHAM – Raymond “Butch” C. Hebert, 96 of Ashburnham passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Legends Rehabilitation in Gardner.
Butch was born October 20, 1920 in Ashburnham, son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Rosbury) Hebert.
Butch was a lifelong resident of Ashburnham. He was a PFC in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the George S. Patton 34th Division, serving 30 months overseas, participating in three major invasions – North Africa, Sicily and AMVIO. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Battle Stars. He worked for the former Conant & Ball Company in Gardner for 45 years. In 2016 he was honored by the Veterans Services and received a proclamation for his years of service and marriage of 47 years to Sylvia M. (Sund) Hebert. He was the oldest veteran in Ashburnham.
He enjoyed gardening, chickens and rabbits, woodworking and making Swedish Santa Clauses. He loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his sister: Dorothy A. Bresnahan of Ashburnham; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years: Sylvia (Sund) Hebert in 1995; three brothers: Donald O. Hebert who died in WWII, Levi “Pete” Hebert, Vernon J. Hebert; two sisters: Irene B. Hebert and Agnes C. Colt.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner, MA. Burial will follow in the Meeting House Hill Cemetery, Ashburnham.
Calling hours will be held Saturday from 9:30AM – 11:00AM at the funeral home.
