ATHOL– Raymond J. Marquis, 89 of Athol, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021 at home. Raymond was born on February 16, 1931 in Athol, son of the late Leo R. Marquis and the late Irene D. (Chicoine) Marquis. He grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School with the Class of1949. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. Ray worked for the L. S. Starrett Company for 27 years retiring in 1993. Prior to that he worked for the J. F. McElwain Shoe Company for 11 years. He was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church, a member of the Athol American Legion, the VFW, the Athol-Orange Lodge of Elks and the Athol Golden Ages. He enjoyed bowling, horseshoes and working around his yard. Raymond leaves his wife of 61 years, Caroline M. (Sweeney) Marquis of Athol; one sister, Rita Batchelor of Athol and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Leo A. Marquis, Edward H. Marquis, Richard D. Marquis; and by a sister, Gloria Robichaud. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 11 am in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 9:30 to 10:30 am in the funeral home.
