Athol – Regina M. (Laroche) Grier Sheppard, 93, formerly of 739 Daniel Shays Highway, died Friday, April 1, 2011 at the Baldwinville Nursing Home.
She was born in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, August 9, 1917, the daughter of Odilion and Annie (Gelinas) Laroche. She grew up in Winchendon where she attended schools, later living in Fitchburg for many years and since 1987 has resided in Athol.
Regina worked at the Winchendon Hospital, was a nurse maid for the Wheelock Family in Fitzwilliam for 12 years, drove school bus, modeled clothing at Moskovitz’s Clothing Store in Athol and managed the thrift shop and St. John’s Episcopal Church for several years. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, also serving on the vestry of the church.
Her husband of 27 years, George A. Sheppard, Jr., died in 1999. She leaves two sons; Albert P. Grier and his wife Donna and Gordon Grier and a grandson, Jonathan Grier all of Fitzwilliam, NH. She was predeceased by three brothers, two sisters and a step-son, George A. Sheppard, III.
At Regina’s request her body was donated to the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester.
There are no formal funeral services planned. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to: St. John’s Episcopal Church, 15 Park Ave., Athol, MA 01331.
