Reginald C. Haughton

April 5, 1937 — January 8, 2017

PHILLIPSTON - Reginald C. Haughton, Sr., 79 of Baldwin Hill Road Phillipston, died peacefully on January 8, 2017, with his loving family at his side. Born on April 5, 1937, he was the son of the late Ida (Gibson) and Harold Haughton and grew up in Athol with his younger sister, Kathie. Reg graduated from Athol High School in 1955. Reg worked in various capacities in the construction and housing industry over the years, never retiring. He also served on the Phillipston Board of Assessor for 17 years. He and his loving wife, Emelda would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this February. Reg and Mel enjoyed living in the country and buying and restoring an old apple orchard on Baldwin Hill Road in Phillipston. This property brought much joy with 75 acres and a breathtaking view of Mount Monadnock along with a private pond, it became the hub for family and community enjoyment. They had large vegetable gardens, heated their home by wood, harvested wild game, and always had a canine companion -- his beloved Buffie will miss him. Reg and Mel’s homestead was a welcoming place as Reg loved to cook and Mel bake. The family shared many wonderful memories; sledding, snowmobiling, fishing, and cards often being played at the table. Reg loved the out of doors and traveling to various national parks across our country. Reg and Mel took many trips to Alaska over the years and loved to fish for salmon and enjoy the beautiful landscapes. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved taking his boat out on the Quabbin Reservoir. He genuinely enjoyed the company of others, and they the same. His grandchildren brought much joy and he attended numerous grandchildren activities. He will be deeply missed and survived by those he lived for and loved deeply. In addition to his wife, Emelda (Robichaud), Reg is survived by his best friend and sister, Kathie and her husband, Donald Ziminski; his four children and their spouses: Reggie and Laura Haughton, Colleen and Ron Richard, Greg and Kathleen Haughton, and Denise and Glen Johnson; his ten grandchildren and two great grandsons: Cassandra and Andrew Foley and their twin boys Bennett and Chase, Brittany Haughton and Adam Myallaked, Dylan and Kori Haughton; Trevor Richard, Julia Richard and David Morris; Adrian and Sarah Haughton; and Derek, Reid and Graham Johnson and Brady Dyer. Reg also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. A mass will be held at Holy Cross Church in East Templeton, on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 1:00.
