Gardner-Richard Nelson Bonk, 81, died October 31, 2021 at UMass Memorial Hospital after an illness.
He leaves his brother, John D. Bonk Sr of Medford Lakes, NJ; one nephew, John D. Bonk, Jr of NJ; two nieces, Jennifer Naugle of NJ and Kimberly Bland and her husband Richard of PA. He also leaves eight great nieces and nephews; John A. Bonk, Christina Bonk, Nicole Bonk, Brittany Naugle, Evan Naugle, Brooke Naugle, Alyssa Bland, and Nicholas Bland.
Richard was born in Gardner on December 30, 1939 a son of the late John and Hazel (Nelson) Bonk. He graduated from Gardner High School and UMass with a BA in Business Management. Richard served in the U.S. Airforce for 3 years. He was a district manager for Crawford and Co., an insurance claims management company.
Richard enjoyed fishing, especially ice fishing, traveling, purchasing collectables, sightseeing and gambling.
He had a tremendous sense of humor and loved to make people laugh.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 12 Noon in the Lamoureux-Smith & Polik Chapel of the Mack Funeral Homes, 105 Central Street, Gardner, MA 01440.
There will be a calling hour from 10:30 - 12 noon at the time of the service.
Burial will be in the Wildwood Cemetery, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
