Richard Goldthwaite

ATHOL - Richard Alan "Dick" Goldthwaite, 80, of 1480 Petersham Rd., Athol, died on Friday, October 22, 2010 at his home after an illness. He was born in Athol on August 31, 1930, the son of the late Kenneth and the late Gertrude (Burke) Goldthwaite. Dick graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1949 but received his formal education from the school of hard knocks. He worked as a night Supervisor for the L. S. Starrett Tool Company in Athol from 1956 to 1981. His wife of fifty-six years, Phyllis T. (Thompson) Goldthwaite, died on April 21, 2007. Dick was an accomplished equestrian and cowboy and was a rifle and pistol shooter. He enjoyed golfing with his best friend, Perkins, and bowling. He was one of the founding members of Racom, a radio club that assisted local authorities with emergencies, local events and roadside assistance. Dick traveled with his family and worked in Scotland, England, Alaska, and across the continental Unites States over the years. He accomplished all that he wanted in his life. He had no regrets and was very proud of his boys. Dick did what Dick loved to do. He leaves four sons, Alan Goldthwaite of Oklahoma City, OK, Brian Goldthwaite of Beaufort, NC; Mark Goldthwaite of Beaufort, NC, Chris Goldthwaite of Phoenix, AZ; and five grandchildren, Laura Goldthwaite of Phoenix, AZ, Ean Goldthwaite of Phoenix, AZ, Maureen Goldthwaite of Oklahoma City, OK, Kenneth Goldthwaite of Oklahoma City, OK, Christopher Goldthwaite of Keene, NH; a brother, Robert Goldthwaite of Mobile, AL; and his lifelong friends and neighbors, Garry and Eve Bartlett of Athol. He was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Goldthwaite, and by his brother, Donald Goldthwaite. A celebration of Dick's life will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. outside at the family's home, 1480 Petersham Road, Athol. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be sent to The Goldthwaite Family, P.O. Box 353, Athol, MA 01331 to assist with final expenses. $(document).ready(function(){ });
