Richard I. Hood

Richard I. Hood Royalston – Richard Irwin Hood, 74, died Saturday, March 31, 2012 at UMASS Memorial Medical Center University Campus in Worcester.      Richard was born in Athol on October 22, 1937 the son of Elton and Eva (Stevens) Hood.  He graduated from Athol High School in 1956.  He grew up in Athol and also lived in Petersham, Barre and Royalston.  He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, and Port of Whittier, Alaska.  Richard earned his Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester State College in 1976.      Richard was a Manufacturing Manager for many years, working at the Barre Wool Combing Company, the L.S. Starrett Company, Adell Corporation in Orange, and was a CNA at a nursing home in Gardner.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.      He leaves his children, Keith Hood and his wife Lynn of Wales, Kevin Hood and his wife Sandra, Kathleen Godfrey and her husband Joseph and Kenneth Hood and his wife Amy, all of Barre;  12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.   He also leaves his brothers William and Steven, and sister Sandra. He was predeceased by his brother Laurence and sister Carla.      A graveside service with military honors will be held Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.at Jonas Alliene Cemetery in Royalston with family members officiating.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in Richard’s name be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA  02472.   Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol is directing arrangements.  For further information or to share a memory with the family go to: www.higginsoconnorfuneralhome.com. $(document).ready(function(){ });
