PETERSHAM - Richard E. Kimball, age 92, died Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Fitchburg Gardens. Richard was born June 23, 1924 in Newton, MA. He is the son of the late Gordon and the late Lillian Kimball.
Richard moved to Athol with his family at an early age and graduated from New Salem Academy. He served in the US Navy during World War II from 1943 until1946 serving as a Torpedoman’s Mate on the USS Eugene E. Elmore a destroyer escort in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.
He worked for several employers following his military discharge before beginning his longtime career as a machinist at Union Twist Drill.
He was very active in the Masons for many years and was a member of the Gas & Steam Engine Association. He enjoyed antique engines and participated in the engine show in Orange for many years.
He is survived by one daughter: Sharron Monaghan and her husband Dennis of Dublin, NH and one son: Richard Kimball, Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Petersham, he also has one granddaughter, Aimee Katembo and one great granddaughter, Nepemba Katembo of New York City, NY.
He is predeceased by: his wife, Madeline E. Kimball and his daughter, Deborah Harris.
