Richard R. Knight, 85, of Baldwinville passed away Monday, October 21, 2024 at his home. An avid sportsman, Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and found peace in his daily walks. His greatest joy was sharing his knowledge and love of the outdoors with his family treasuring the time spent together. He lived by Yeats’ quote; there are no strangers here only friends you haven’t yet met.
Richard was born in Gardner, September 24, 1939, the son of George W. and Lillian A. (Luhtala) Knight. He grew up in Templeton and Phillipston and then graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School.
He honorably served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1962 on the USS Calcaterra, a destroyer escort, as a ship’s pipe fitter and achieved the rank of E-4 PO3. Subsequently he transferred to the reserves and served until 1966.
Richard went on to earn his Master’s Plumbing License and was the proud owner of Richard Knight Plumbing & Heating in Gardner. When he wasn’t running his business, another passion was spending time working on and maintaining vehicles at home and his brother’s garage.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Steven G. Knight and his wife, Ann, of Baldwinville, his son, Douglas R. Knight of Inverness, FL as well as two daughters; Laura M. Lockhart of Inverness, FL and Leeanne F. Achi of Fitchburg, MA and 5 grandchildren: Danielle, Joshua, Sarah, Kayla and Greyson. He also leaves two sisters; Nancy Kenney of FL and Sally Knight of MA and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his brothers, Calvin G. Knight, and Allen E. Knight.
Private services will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon.
