EUGENE, Org. -- Richard William Marshall died unexpectedly, Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at the Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene.
Born May 30, 1935, to the late Carl and the late Agnes (Setters) Marshall, he grew up in Brockton and was baptized at the Sacred Heart Church. Moving to Quincy he later worked as a linotype operator and raised his family.
Eventually, Richard moved his family to Orange in 1978. He leaves two sons, David of Athol and Daniel of Lebanon, N.H. He is also survived by one brother, John Marshall of Quincy and a sister, Doris Marshall of Weymouth.
Richard enjoyed nature, appreciating its beauty and complexity. Often he played with his cats and had a parakeet on his shoulder. He was a self-taught man who enjoyed reading and learning about history as well as poetry. His hobbies were collecting stamps, coins and woodworking. Showing his excitement in making things of wood, he helped in Cub Scout projects and made a very large village scene for his children's trains.
There will be a private service conducted by Rev. Adam Randazzo and burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery on Dec. 3.
Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange, is directing arrangements.
