Athol - Richard Weston Meuse of 739 Daniel Shays Hwy., Athol passed peacefully on the morning of May 23rd at the Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA. He was born 12/11/29 to Harry & Myrtle Meuse who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Thomas, Robert & Harry, Jr., and by four sisters, Mary, Betty, Edith & Shirley. He was also predeceased by a grandson Jon ChiassonBefore retiring in 1987 he had worked at Christie & Thompson Auto Parts in Gardner and previously at Ernest T. Fredette’s in Athol. He and his wife Irene (LaBonte) Meuse moved to Arizona where they lived for 18 years before Irene’s death in 2005. He moved back to Athol with his family.Richard was always an avid bowler and horseshoe player as well as widely known for his dowsing abilities and has found wells for many people in the North Quabbin area.He leaves behind his loving family including a daughter Brenda (Meuse) Frenette, a son Daniel & his wife Marita (Ritty) Meuse, his step-son Russell LeBlanc and his wife Dot of Gardner, step-daughters Norma and her husband Jim Ruckey of FL., and Marcia and her husband Richard Falke of PA and one brother Paul Meuse and his wife Gloria of Athol. He had five grandchildren Stephanie Bachelder, Richard Bachelder & his companion Carol Porter of Gardner, Steven & Amanda Meuse and Jason & Lisa Meuse both of Orange, Glenn Frenette and his wife Tonya of Lowell and six step-grandchildren, as well as several great grandchildren and one on the way. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.Services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the So. Athol United Methodist Church.  There will be no calling hours.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the VA Hospital Bedford, 200 Springs Rd., Bedford, MA 01730 with a memo/note: ‘In memory of Richard Meuse, Unit 4B’.
