PHILLIPSTON – Richard T. Recos Sr., 88, of Highland Ave. died on May 29, 2018 at Heywood Hospital in Gardner surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Petersham, MA, the son of the late Gabriel and Anna (Koski) Recos on April 17, 1930. He lived there during his younger years, graduating from Petersham High School in 1948. Dick enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1948-1952. Some of that time was on the U.S.S. Roosevelt. He was held over 1 year during the Korean War.
Dick worked at the former Union Twist Drill Company in Athol for 15 years. In 1967 he became a partner with his brother George in the contracting business, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of the VFW. He served a short while as an assessor for the Town of Phillipston. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, sno-mobiling and often playing cards. He often went skiing with his family and he loved scratch-off tickets. His greatest joys were his family and home.
Dick leaves his wife of 62 years: Shirley E. (Pratt) Recos of Phillipston; three sons: Richard Jr. and his daughter Michaella of Lancaster, Rand and his wife Charlene and their children Christian and Danielle of Orange, Ronald and his wife Robin of Phillipston; one brother: Robert and his wife Nancy of Chesterfield, MA; one sister-in-law: Virginia Recos of Medford, OR; one brother-in-law: Allie (Pete) Strong of Athol; many nieces and nephews.
Dick was predeceased by his brother: Gabriel Recos of Medford, Oregon: brother & sister-in-law: George and Shirley H. Recos of Petersham; his sister and brother-in-law: Dorothy and Russell Smith of Athol & Petersham; three sisters-in-law: Betty Lawton, Joyce Lawton, Geraldine Strong all of Athol, one brother-in-law: Norman Lawton of Athol.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
A calling our will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
