ATHOL - Richard (Dick) Rousselle, born In Athol, August 11, 1933, died peacefully in his home on November 17, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
Dick was born in Athol, Massachusetts, where he lived with his wife of 58 years, Joyce (Landry) Rousselle, and where he was a lifelong member of Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Church. Dick enlisted in the Army and served in Korean War in the early 50’s. After being honorably discharged in 1953 he returned to Athol to marry his sweetheart, Joyce, and raise a family.
Dick was a hard worker and devoted to his family. He was always there to help those in need, be they family, friend, or a stranger off the street. He was known for his sense of humor and quick wit; he had a smile for everyone he met.
Dick was a self-educated man and a self-starter who achieved all he set his mind to. After leaving the armed services, he worked as a printer at Simplex for 25 years and was co-owner of Little Tot Day Care with his wife.
Dick enjoyed a multitude of sports. Golf was his all time favorite, but he also enjoyed billiards, shooting, archery, horseshoes, hunting, tennis, hockey and swimming. He was a member of local Billiards Teams, the Worcester County Pistol League, the Woodsman Rifle & Pistol Club, The Elks club, and the Ellinwood County Club.
Dick is survived by Joyce, his wife, and his five children, Donna Rousselle, Lori Kaltner and her husband Pat, Robin Gleason and her husband Gary all of Athol, Kelly Vella and her husband Gary Strumlauf of Johns Creek, GA, and Keith Rousselle and his wife Krisi of Vaughn, MT. Dick is also survived by eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Dick was pre-deceased by his mother and father, Marie and Philippe Rousselle, as well as one brother, O’Neal Rousselle, and two sisters, Adelaide Olechna and Phoebe Blankenship.
Calling hours will be from 6 – 8 pm, Thursday, November 19 at the Mack Family Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange, MA 01364. Funeral services for Dick will be held on Friday, November 20 at 10 am at Our Lady Immaculate, 192 Main St., Athol, MA 01331. Burial will take place shortly following the services at Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon MA 01475.
