PHILLIPSTON - Richard F. Roy, Sr., 86, of 40 Old Highland Ave. North, Phillipston, went to be with the Lord, Friday, December 13, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lynn, MA, on December 25, 1926, the son of the late Albina Roy. Richard grew up in Fitchburg and was educated in Fitchburg. Mr. Roy was a veteran of three wars, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.  He served in the U.S. Army for 26 years from 1945 to 1971. After his retirement from the Army, Richard worked at the Athol Daily News for 15 years as a pressman, he retired in 1987. He was a member of the V.F.W., the Athol American Legion and the First Cav Association.  He enjoyed golfing and was a fan of all sports. He leaves two daughters, Anita Bevis and her husband Bruce of Phillipston, Karen Cormier and her husband Gillis of Templeton; three sons, Robert R. Roy and his wife Mary of Athol, Richard F. Roy, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Kernersville, NC, Ronald E. Roy and his wife Cyndi of New Salem, MA; eight grandchildren, Sara (Roy) Simms, Daniel Bevis, Elizabeth Bevis, Rachel (Roy) Penn, Lindsay Roy, Robert Roy II, Nicholas Longo, and Kaitlyn Roy. Four great grandchildren, Madelynn Burgess, Eva Burgess, Caitlyn Penn, and Kellan Simms. He was predeceased by his wife, Eva (Blanchard) Roy who died in 2005. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange.  Burial with full military honors will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol. A calling hour will be held Tuesday from 10 - 11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256 or to the Gardner Visiting Nurses Association, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440.
