Richard Henry Stone

ATHOL - Richard Henry Stone, 81, of 123 Simond Street, Athol, died on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol.     Richard was born in Athol on February 14, 1930, the son of the late James A. and the late Cloroda J. (Adams) Stone. He was a lifelong resident of Athol and graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1948.     Mr. Stone served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952.    Many years ago, he worked as Assistant Manager at the First National grocery store. He went on to work for the L. S. Starrett Tool Company until his retirement in 1992. Richard was a member of the Athol-Orange Lodge of Elks and a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing.     He leaves three daughters, Cheryl McLaughlin and her husband Michael of Blackstone, Luanne Henrich of Athol, Lisa Patient and her husband Steve of Athol; two sons, Marshall Stone and his wife Jennifer of Tewksbury, Ronald Stone and his wife Shelly of Petersham; one sister, Ruth Labrie and her husband Joseph of Athol; one brother, Clifford Stone and his wife Betty of Holyoke; his long-time companion, Gloria Durkee of Athol; five grandchildren, Nicole Stone, Deryk Patient, Thomas Patient, Kimberly McLaughlin, Kristin McLaughlin; a great granddaughter, Emma Stone, and many nieces and nephews.     He was predeceased by his wife of thirty-nine years, Margaret (Godin) Stone, in 1991; also by a brother, Collis Stone; and by three sisters, Oriza Batchelor, Dorothy Jarvis, Ethel Stone.     A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 3, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in Athol.     Calling hours will be held Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange.     In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 or to Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol, MA 01331. $(document).ready(function(){ });
