With a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous grin, Richard "Dick" Thibeault, born on June 27, 1940, in Athol, MA, approached life with a spirit that was as adventurous as it was resilient. He was a witty and loving force of nature with a heart as vast as the lakes he enjoyed fishing. On May 15, 2024, this larger-than-life personality embarked on his final adventure.
Until retiring in 2002, Richard's career as a special order sales engineer at the L. S. Starrett Tool Company was as unique and engaging as the man himself. Hobbies included fishing, tying flies, hunting, woodworking, nurturing his lawn and vegetable gardens, foraging for mushrooms and cheering on favorite Nascar drivers. His love for the outdoors extended into community service, serving on the boards of directors for both Quabbin Anglers and Athol zoning board of appeals, and as president of Petersham Gun Club, to which he was a life member. Richard was also an Eagle scout and devoted Boy Scout leader and scout master.
Remembered by his family for his loving nature and his zest for life, Richard is survived by his wife Carolyn, his son Richard Jr. (Susan), his granddaughters Justine (Justin) Sargent and Jessica Thibeault, grandson Alexander (Maurissa), Christopher Jr. (Kate), great-grandsons Nicholas Graves and Jack Sargent, daughters by marriage Lori (Larry) Obue, Diane Chaisson, Theresa Mailloux, and Denise (Timothy) Aukstikalnis, 8 more grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren by marriage, and his brother Robert (Christine) as well as 3 nieces, and 2 nephews.
He is preceded in death by his son Christopher, his father Dominick, his mother Nellie, his brother William, and his ex-wife Suzanne Dunbar.
