ATHOL - Richard G. Valley, 83 of Athol, died Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in the Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
He was born in Athol, on January 7, 1935, the son of the late Edward S. and the late Evelyn (Sweeney) Valley.
Richard grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1953. While attending high school he was a member of the school basketball team.
Mr. Valley worked at N.D. Cass Company and went on to work for 21 years at the Union Twist Drill Company until it's closing. He owned and operated Valley Tax Service for many years.
Richard enjoyed golfing and tennis and was a longtime member of Ellinwood Country Club.
He leaves one daughter, Julie A. Litchfield and her husband Mark of Athol; one son, Shawn E. Valley of Athol; one step-daughter, Lisa Ahlstrom of Petersham; two step-sons, Garrett Ahlstrom of New Hampshire, Brett Ahlstrom of Orange; three sisters, Linda Knapp and her husband Donald of Athol, Rachel Vitello and her husband Peter of Orange City, FL, Corrine Ramsey and her husband Steve of Alaska; five grandchildren, Erica Adams, Ian Adams, Jessica Valley, Jillian Valley, Jordan Valley; several step-grandchildren, two great grandchildren, Derek, Khaelyn; close friends, Linda Chiasson, Bob Finn, John Jasins, his former wife: Ruby Stowell of Athol.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lois (Nelson) Valley, by his son, Richard Valley, Jr., and by his sister, Barbara Marquis.
Calling hours will be held Monday, April 23, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to charity of one's choice.
