ORANGE - Rita D. (Landry) Arsenault, age 86, of Orange died Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol.
Mrs. Arsenault was born October 4, 1927 in Rumford, Maine the daughter of the late Augustus and the late Marie Claire (Allaire) Landry.
She grew up in Rumford Maine and moved to the Athol area in the 1940's. She and her husband Edmond owned and operated Arsenault's Variety in Athol for over 20 years.
Rita was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church and served as a Eucharistic minister. She was a member and past president of the Emblem Club. Rita enjoyed family traditions, playing cribbage, going to Bingo, bowling, golfing, dancing, traveling the country with her husband, and was a big Red Sox fan.
Her birthday celebrations were always special as she shared the same birthday with two of her sons.
She is survived by one daughter, Evelyn Theriault and her husband Ray of Phillipston; four sons, James E. Arsenault of Athol, Raymond J. Arsenault and his wife Marilyn of Gardner, Robert J. Arsenault and his wife Kathy of Orange, Gerald C. Arsenault and his wife Doreen of Athol; eleven grandchildren;eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edmond J. Arsenault who died in 1991, by her brother, Francis Landry, by her sister, Lillian Moody, and her granddaughter Tammi Bjorson.
The funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 1 in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.
Calling hours will be Friday, February 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol, MA 01331.
