ATHOL - Rita C. (Mallet) Caouette, age 93, formerly of 53 Hampstead Place, Athol, died Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol. Her last ten years, she resided at Providence Cliff Senior Residence in Athol.
Mrs. Caouette was born February 25, 1920 in Athol,the daughter of the late Ferdinand and the late Mabel (Gravelin) Mallet.
Rita grew up in, and was a life-long resident of Athol. She was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church and a member of the Catholic Women's League. She was also a member of the Athol Golden Ager's.
An avid walker,she could be seen almost daily, conquering the many hills of town, with her longtime neighborhood friend, Pauline Truchinskas .She also took great pride in keeping up her house and yard. She enjoyed making puzzles, playing bingo, reading, picking blueberries, traveling, and was a great cook.
She is survived by one daughter, Irene Oczkowksi and her husband Joseph of Peterborough, NH; two sons, Richard Caouette and his wife Doris of Petersham, and son,Roger Caouette of Northampton, MA. and his significant other, Joe Fiore of Brooklyn,NY ;four grandchildren;Dawn Caouette and Diona Laford,both of Petersham; and two grandsons;Joseph Oczkowski and wife,Leslie,of Waltham,Ma. and James Oczkowski and wife,Paula of Nashua,N.H.She also leaves three nieces and two nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles W. Caouette, a brother, Leo Mallet and a sister, Virginia Chaisson.
Funeral services and burial will be private.
