Athol – Robert P. Duguay, 81, of Partridgeville Road, died Monday, June 30, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family
Bob was born December 25, 1932 in Greenfield, MA the son of Phillip and Josephine (Lemier) Duguay. He grew up in Gardner, graduating from Gardner High School in 1951. While in high school he played left end for the football team “Wildcats†as they won the state championship that year. For the past 34 years he has resided in Athol. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Bob worked for the former First National Store in Athol, Gardner and Fitchburg as produce manager for 32 years. He also worked at Athol Memorial Hospital for 5 years and the Templeton Development Center for 10 years.
He was a member of a member of the Athol American Legion Post # 102 and the Athol VFW Post. Bob loved all types of water sports, including fishing, and boating. He also enjoyed watching all sports on TV, going to the casinos and playing scratch tickets. He and Marcella enjoyed traveling and visited several countries including 18 cruises. Bob was a scuba diver, working with the sheriff’s department in NH and Gardner in quarries. Bob especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife of 34 years, Marcella (Cosentino) Duguay; a daughter, Leslie E. Duguay of Ocala, FL; his step children, Raenette Kramer and her husband John of Athol, William Sadoski of Orland, FL, and Lettie Posk and her fiancé Dennis of Athol; a sister, Gladys Kajampaa of the Villages, FL; eight grandchildren, Marcella, Crystal, Jeremy, Kelsey, Jamie, Olivia, Curtis and Cody; four great grandchildren,
Julia, Hanna, Hailey and Michael and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his beloved dog Bella. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ray and Phil and a sister, Rita.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol with the Rev. Freda Maier officiating. There will be calling hours from noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations may be made in Robert’s memory to the Athol Animal Shelter, for animal care, c/o Athol Police Department, 280 Exchange Street, Athol, MA 01331.
