Robert Childs Hall, passed away on February 13, 2024, at the age of 81. Born in Washington D.C. on February 10, 1943, Robert spent the majority of his life in Ashburnham, Massachusetts after a life full of learning, teaching, and touching the lives of many. Robert's life was one of service, dedication, and a deep love for education. As Albert Einstein once said, "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge", and this was a philosophy Robert lived by.
An alumnus of Attleboro Public Schools and Holderness School, Robert furthered his education at Middlebury College, earning his Bachelor's degree in 1965, followed by a Master’s degree in History from UMass Amherst in 1970. His unwavering dedication to his country led him to serve in the US Army from 1965-1967 in Vietnam as an officer. Following his service, Robert embarked on a fulfilling career in education where he not only taught but inspired countless students in Jewett City, CT, and later at Cushing Academy. His passion for teaching was only paralleled by his love for coaching basketball, football, and coordinating the ski program.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Robert was a man of many interests and passions. He found solace in fishing, reveled in the victories of the Patriots, and cherished his travels to Sanibel, FL. His love for family gatherings at Nyes Neck, Cape Cod, especially on the 4th of July, was a testament to his love for his family.
He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Evelyn Riley (Andy), his cherished grandson Casey Riley, his enduring partner of over 41 years, Jan Bedula, and his devoted sister Joanne VonCulin (Joe). He is also survived by his nephews Richard & James VonCulin and their families. Robert was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Marion Hall.
In Lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to your local animal shelters.
