Robert A. Mack, 85 of Fitchburg passed away Friday, November 11, 2022, in the UMass Memorial Health Alliance Hospital – Leominster Campus.
A lifelong resident of Fitchburg, Bob was born on August 31, 1937. He was a graduate of St. Bernard's High School with the class of 1955 and the Stevens Business College. His extensive and successful career in the paper industry began in the mail room at the Fitchburg Paper Company, owned by George R. Wallace, and continued for decades becoming a top salesman for Fitchburg Paper, Litton Industries, Technographics, and Valentine Paper Company.
He was a staunch patriot and a proud member of the AMVETS Post 38 where he served as Chaplain for many years. Bob served in the Massachusetts National Guard 26 Yankee Division for many years. He was a member of the Eastwood Club and the British American Club.
Bob is survived by his sister Mary Ann (Mack) McGilvray; his niece, Nora (McGilvray) Bice, her husband Jason Bice, and his great nephew Brendan Beckett Bice. He was predeceased by his parents Alden and Kathleen (Clancy) Mack and his brother-in-law Kenny McGilvray.
Bob was a good man, an old-school gentleman who treasured his routines and schedules. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, a good meal (just like mom used to make), a cold Pumpkinhead, a football or baseball game, or a conversation reminiscing with old friends.
He was a loyal son, brother, uncle, and friend with a kind heart, and he will be missed.
According to Bob's wishes, there will be no calling hours, but a graveside service will be held Friday, November 18, 2022, at 11 AM in St Bernard's Cemetery Fitchburg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to the Fitchburg Friends of Felines 499 Electric Ave., P.M.B 180 Fitchburg, MA 01420, or to the AMVETS Post 38, 100 West St., Leominster, MA 01453.
