GARDNER - Robert B. Mackenzie, 83 of 194 Central Street, Gardner, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at home.
He was born in Newport, Vermont, on May 28, 1928, the son of the late Donald L. and the late Louise (Malo) Mackenzie.
He grew up in Vermont and was educated in Newport, Vermont.
Robert was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army.
He moved from Vermont to Gardner in 1959 and was employed by GEM Industries for over 40 years, he retired in 1991.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and he enjoyed walking and was an avid Red Sox fan.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Eleanor E. (Burlton) Mackenzie; one daughter, Bonnie J. Mackenzie of Gardner; one son, Michael A. Mackenzie of Gardner; one sister, Marie Warner of Barton, VT; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Friday, September 23, 2011 at 10:00 am in the Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner. Burial with military honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
A calling hour will be held Friday, September 23, 2011, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Gardner Visiting Nursing Association, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440 or to Sacred Heart Church - Restoration Fund, 166 Cross St., Gardner, MA 01440.
