ATHOL - Robert J. Mansfield, 81 of 210 Rice Street, died Thursday, June 22, 2006 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol.
Mr. Mansfield was born in New Haven, CT on May 29, 1925, the son of the late Russell and the late Julia (Hayes) Mansfield. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Upon his return, he was a milkman for Hood Dairy and then worked many years as a salesman for Nu-Stone and Atlas Concrete companies.
After his retirement in 1989, he and his wife relocated from N. Branford, CT to Athol. Never one to be idle, he worked at the former Shop 'n Save for a number of years on a part-time basis and volunteered his time at the South Athol Congregational Church.
He was a quiet, loving man whose greatest joys were his family and home. He will be sorely missed by friends and family alike who were fortunate enough to know this true "gentle"man.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Betty C. (Condon) Mansfield, two sons; Kirby Mansfield of Dorchester and Bryan Mansfield of Athol, one daughter; Roberta Mansfield of Portland, OR, and seven grandchildren; Jason, Bob, Serenah, Alexandra, Jasmine, Lauren and David.
He was predeceased by his brother, Russell Mansfield, Jr.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 1, 2006 in the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main St., Athol at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
