Robert Steven Martin

d. August 2, 2013

Robert Steven Martin Bullhead City, Arizona – Robert Steven Martin, 54, formerly of Athol, died unexpectedly on August 2, 2013 at his home in Bullhead City, AZ where he had lived since 1990.      Robert was born in Haverhill, NH on May 15, 1959, the youngest son of David L. Martin and Jean (Bishop) Martin, who moved the family to Orange, MA in 1964.  Robert grew up in Woodsville, NH and the Athol-Orange area and was a member of the Class of 1977 at Ralph C. Mahar Regional High School, Orange.  While living in the Athol-Orange area, Robert worked in Athol for L.S. Starrett Company and Plotkin Furniture Company.  After relocating to Bullhead City, he worked as a bellman for hotel-casinos in nearby Laughlin, NV.  Most recently, he was employed by Enterprise Rent-A-Car.  Robert was a hard worker who enjoyed assisting his customers and welcoming them to the Bullhead City-Laughlin area.  He was highly regarded for his friendly, helpful demeanor and good nature.       Robert, known as “Bobby” to his family, loved to travel, listen to music, attend concerts and sporting events, read, write letters, and socialize.  He will always be remembered for his charm, quick wit, sense of humor, curiosity, knowledge of sports, music and trivia, love of nature, and his fun-loving and generous spirit.  He was a faithful fan of his native New England sports teams and of his lifelong favorite team, the San Francisco 49ers.  As a youngster, Robert played Little League Baseball in Orange.  As a young adult, he enjoyed trips to Hampton Beach, NH.  As an adult, he loved the New England foliage and coastline, yet yearned for the warm, sunny climate of the southwestern United States.   Preferring to drive his vintage cars to flying, he visited many U.S. national parks and forests and often gave his photographs of scenic sites as gifts.  Robert was giving of himself and enjoyed sharing special times with family and friends, including entertaining at his home.  He took great pleasure in introducing his family and old friends to the Arizona and Nevada desert, canyons, rivers and lakes and he stayed in regular contact with his extended family.      Robert leaves his parents, Jean and David Martin of East Longmeadow, MA and formerly of Athol, who meant so much to him throughout his life; his longtime girlfriend, Margo Aragon of Arizona/California; siblings William Martin and his wife Mary of East Longmeadow, Richard Martin and his wife Suzanne of Athol, Cynthia Martin and her husband Zhaoyu Wan of Skokie, IL, Cheryl Martin and her life companion Janice of Westfield, and Tamara “Tammy” Martin and her life companion Luisa of Arlington, VA; and sister-in-law Lynn Martin of Orange.  Robert also leaves six adoring nieces and nephews:  Matthew Martin of Millbury, Shanna (Martin) Moraga of Worcester, Christopher Martin of Owings Mills, MD, Sarah (Martin) Carter of Windham, ME, and Leontyne and Isaac Wan of Skokie, IL; a beloved aunt, Barbara (Bishop) White of Lisbon, NH, and her children, Robert’s cousins Deborah, Margaret, Nancy, and Thomas, and many other relatives.      A celebration of life will be held Sunday, October 13, 2013 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Athol American Legion, 325 Pequoig Ave., Athol.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions “in memory of Robert Steven Martin” can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Mass/NH Chapter, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA  02472 or http://www.alz.org/  in honor of Robert’s love and devotion to his mother, Jean, who is living with Alzheimer’s disease with amazing grace, courage and dignity.  For further information or to share a memory with the family, go to: www.higginsoconnorfuneralhome.com. $(document).ready(function(){ });
