ATHOL - Robert S. Mayo, 80 of 648 Pleasant St., Athol, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in the Athol Hospital, Athol.
He was born in Medford, on February 13, 1933, the son of the late George and the late Cornellia (McCarthy) Mayo.
He grew up in Medford and graduated from Medford High School. Mr. Mayo was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy.
Robert was Captain with the Massachusetts State Police. Upon his retirement he worked as a civilian for the Army at Fort Devens during Desert Storm.
He was a member of the Athol American Legion, the Athol Lodge of Masons and the Athol-Orange Lodge of Elks. He enjoyed socializing with friends and going out to local restaurants. Bob was an avid sports fan of the Bruins, Red Sox and yes the New York Giants.
He participated with the law enforcement at the Inaugural Parade for George W. Bush in 2001.
He leaves two daughters, Kimberly Mayo-Correal and her husband Ricardo of St. Johns, FL, Kerry Zablonski and her husband Richard of Athol; one son, Robert G. Mayo of Athol; three grandchildren, Jordan Hunt of Athol, Nicolas Correal of St. Johns, FL, Samuel Correal of St. Johns, FL and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his three sisters, Jean, Edith and Thelma
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 27, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange. Burial in Silver Lake Cemetery will be at a later date.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, December 26, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
