HULL, MA - Robert C. Osborne, age 86, of Hull, formerly of Athol, died Monday, August 18, 2014 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, MA. He was born January 21, 1928 in Boston, the son of the late Arthur and Grace (Kerrigan) Osborne. He was the oldest of seven children. His brothers Eugene and Kenneth both predeceased him. He is survived by his brothers, Arthur, Donald, and Phillip, and his sister, Joyce. As a young boy, he lived in Cow Bay, Nova Scotia, and then moved to Saugus, MA. He graduated from Coyne Electrical School in 1952 and Mahar Regional High School in Orange in 1965. Mr. Osborne was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Merchant Marine as an integral part of the D-Day invasion. He also served in the Air Force as part of the allied occupying forces in Japan at the close of World War II. He was the Postmaster of the Petersham Post Office and served in the United States Postal Service for over 30 years. He served in numerous community volunteer roles over the course of his life. He was chairman of the Selective Service Board #150, a member of the Athol High School Parents Advisory Council, the Athol-Orange Elks, the Petersham Lions Club, American Legion Post 415, and the VFW Post 650 in Athol. He was honored with both the Elk of the Year and Lion of the Year Awards. He is survived by three daughters and one son: Marie King and her husband, Michael, of Athol; Susan King and her husband, Keith, of South Windsor, Connecticut; Robin Goulding and her husband, Richard, of Scituate, Massachusetts; and Leonard Landry, of South Glastonbury, Connecticut. He is also survived by his twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Stephanie Buck, Gregory, and Jeffrey Willhite of Athol; Angelina and Kyle King of South Windsor; Richard, Robert, Douglas, Michael, and Mary Goulding of Scituate; Kanha and Lee Landry of South Glastonbury; and Layne Willhite and Teddy Petersen of Athol. He was predeceased by his wife, the love of his life, Angelina (Masiello) Osborne. The funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 21 at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange. Burial with full military honors will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol. A calling hour will be held Thursday, August 21 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
