Robert N. Phelps

ASHBURNHAM - Robert N. Phelps, 81 of 12 Cobb Rd., Ashburnham, died Saturday, July 17, 2010 in the Heywood Hospital, Gardner, MA. He was born in Fitchburg, on August 2, 1928, the son of the late Robert C and the late Elsie (Hellman) Phelps. Mr. Phelps was a lifelong resident of Ashburnham. He was a member of the Ashburnham Community Church and a member of the Forever Young Club. He attended the Worcester Boy Trade School, graduating in 1946. He was a sheet metal worker for the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 63 in Springfield, retiring in 1980. He enjoyed playing baseball in his earlier years and was a collector of Ashburnham history. He leaves two sons: Randall Phelps and his wife Audrey of Ashburnham, Russell Phelps of HI; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Geraldine (Putnam) Phelps who died October 19, 2009 and his son Robert M Phelps who died in 2005. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 11:00 am in the New Cemetery, Ashburnham. No calling hours are scheduled.
