PETERSHAM- Robert S. Walker, 87, of Petersham, died Sunday, October 21, in his home, surrounded by family.
Robert was born July 27, 1931, in Gorham, Maine, son of the late Francis and Ruth (Watson) Walker. He graduated from Gorham High School, Gorham State Teachers College, and Worcester Junior College. Robert taught industrial arts in Blue Hill, Maine before getting drafted into the U.S. Army serving 13 months in Korea. Following his service, he began his career as a tool designer for the L.S. Starrett Company. He was an active member of Starrett Memorial U.M.C. where he served on many committees. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, piano, and sailing.
He leaves his wife of 58 years, Sheila (Bray) Walker; his son, Stephen and daughter in law, Joanne; daughter, Pamela (Walker) Berard and her husband, Gregory; one brother, William Walker and his wife, Carol; eight grandchildren, Tara Walker, Stephanie Degiulio, Derek Brazauskas, Christopher Powers, Doreen Roberts, Marc Berard, Jenice Roberts, and Scott Berard; five great grandchildren, Hunter and Carter Lane, Joseph and Abigail Roberts and Clara Powers; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Pettinga Moore.
The funeral will be held Saturday, November 3, at 2:00 P.M. at Starrett Memorial Methodist Church, 40 Island St., Athol. Burial will take place Friday, November 9, at 11:00 A.M. at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon.
