Robert L. Walsh

January 6, 1960 — August 29, 2015

GARDNER- Robert L. Walsh came into this world on January 6, 1960 with a love for life, laughter and music. Everyone who knew Rob knows he had a beautiful smile, an infectious laugh and a spirit that soared. Although he was diagnosed with brain cancer 8 years ago, he chose to focus on living well and loving his family and friends with a deep abiding heart. On Saturday, August 29, 2015 Rob died at home, in the presence of many who loved him, leaving behind a legacy of smiles, hugs and a feeling of joy that will live on forever. Rob met and married his soul mate Julie (Plouffe) with whom he shared 30 years of marriage and the joy of raising their 17 year-old-daughter Carley. Rob was the fourth of five children of the late Jeanette (Mercier) and Bob Walsh. He will be missed by his many friends and family, including his sister, Kathleen Piper and her son, Jesse Piper, his sisters, Christine Walsh, Maureen Walsh and her husband, Bud Stanley, and his brother, David Walsh, who was his constant companion growing up. Rob embraced his extended family, Cliff and Ellie Plouffe, Allison, Stephen, and Noah Shields, Craig, Tammy, Paige and Jack Roscoe and in return he was loved and admired. Rob attended Sacred Heart School and later graduated from Gardner High School in 1978. As a teenager, Rob worked in the family business, Newcomb and Walsh, Inc. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Fitchburg State College, and had a career in finance sales. Rob was a professional drummer and singer who thoroughly loved all aspects of music. Many people were fortunate to hear his gift, playing for several local rock bands. As we learned from the Wizard of Oz,“A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others.” Rob lived a well-loved and richlife. Funeral services will be held at Annunciation Parish, formerly Holy Rosary Church, on Friday, September 4th at 3:30 pm. There are no calling hours. The family wishes to extend their heart-felt gratitude to the nursing and hospice staff of the Gardner VNA, Inc., his doctors and the many family and friends that shared in his care. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Holy Family Academy, 99 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA 01440, where Rob devoted his time and shared his playful disposition with the faculty and students.
