ATHOL - Robert W. Walters, Jr., 49, of 280 Moore Hill Rd., Athol, died Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at home.
He was born in Springfield, MA on November 9, 1958, the son of the late Robert W. and the late Gloria K. (Pierce) Walters, Sr.
Mr. Walters grew up in Springfield and attended schools in Longmeadow. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from W.P.I. in Worcester. He was considered a jack-of-all-trades and was a marksman when he was younger and received many awards. Mr. Walters worked several years ago as a diesel mechanic, a tractor-trailer truck driver, then designed steam turbines for Coppus Engineering Company. He was also a farmer on his own farm in Athol. He enjoyed sheltering dogs that needed homes, and taking care of his many animals.
He leaves his wife of nearly 12 years, Mary (Page) Walters of Warren; and his three children, Gloria M. Walters, Clifford W. Walters, Clayton R. Walters, all of Warren.
Graveside services will be held Monday, October 6, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Silver Lake Cemetery, Silver Lake St., Athol.
There are no calling hours. At the request of the family, cards of sympathy or letters may be sent to Mrs. Mary Walters or to the funeral home.
