BURLINGTON, VERMONT - Robert G Wood, 92, died peacefully with his family by his side, on Saturday April 26, 2014. Bob was born in Arlington MA, November 17, 1921, the son of the late C. Gordon and Georgie (Crossman) Wood. He grew up in Somerville (MA) and graduated from Somerville High School and Vesper George School of Art in 1947. In December of 1947 he married Martha Ambroze of Gardner. They moved to New York City so he could pursue a career in the advertising business, as a creative artist, art director or studio manager for 40 years, the last 14 years with Grey Advertising NYC. In 1987 Bob and Martha returned to Gardner. In 2013 he moved to St Joseph’s Residential Care Home in Burlington VT to be closer to his daughter and her family. During World War II Bob served in the US Army with the ASTP as a Topographical Draftsman and Art Instructor. For 38 years Bob was an adult volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America serving as District Commissioner, Scout Master of Troop 190 Bronx NY and Leader Trainer. He also served on the committee for Troop 6, Sacred Heart Church, Gardner MA. His awards included Silver Beaver, Wood Badge 3 beads, and Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow. Other organizations of involvement included: American Legion Post 19 Bronx NY, Commander and First District (Manhattan and Bronx) as Scout Chairman. Master Mason Bredablick Lodge 880 Manhattan NY, Hope Masonic Lodge Gardner MA Greater Gardner Artist Association, Past President Member St Paul’s Episcopal Church, Gardner Bob enjoyed playing chess, watching the NE Patriots on TV and listening to the Red Sox or Big Band music while painting watercolors. Bob was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Martha (Ambroze) in 2007. He is survived by his daughter Deborah and husband, Roland Lajoie Jr. of Hyde Park VT, son Richard G Wood of Amity Harbor, Long Island, NY. Granddaughter Claire J. Lajoie of Pittsburgh PA, grandson Daniel R. Lajoie of Winooski VT, brother Stanley C. and wife Anna Wood of W Acton MA,  special care givers niece Lisa and husband Paul Kane of Templeton MA, sister-in-laws Eleanor Chartier of Gardner MA, Elizabeth Langevin of West Palm Beach FL and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Friday, May 2, 2014 at 11 a.m. in St. John’s Cemetery, Gardner.  A calling period will be held Friday, May 2, 2014 from 10 – 10:45 a.m. in the Mack Funeral Home 91 Vernon St., Gardner.
