ATHOL- Roberta M. (MacLean) Brackett, 92 died peacefully on Saturday, September 9th at the Quabbin Valley Nursing Home after an illness. Roberta, formerly of Highland street in Athol, Laurel Lake in Fitzwilliam, NH and resided for the last three years at Broadview Assisted Living in Winchendon.
Roberta was born in Athol on February 20, 1925, daughter of the late Ernest C. and Grace E. (Powell) MacLean. She graduated from Athol High School in 1943. She retired from Athol Memorial Hospital where she worked as a secretary/clerk. She was a former member of the Athol American Legion Auxillary where her husband was a former commander.
She married Robert L. Brackett on June 29, 1946 and they enjoyed 43 years together. Robert died July 12, 1989.
Roberta enjoyed knitting for her family and friends and also for needy and charitable associations. She also liked to read, watch Wheel of Fortune, watch the humming birds at her feeder and loved her time at Laurel Lake where she watched her children grow up. After her retirement she wintered in Florida with herhusband, and also spent vacations in York Beach & Bermuda.
She leaves two daughters, Cheryl A. Mahoney and her husband, Dan of Royalston, Susan E. Desreuisseau and her husband, Roland of Orange; three sons, David R. Brackett of Fitzwilliam, NH, Richard L. Brackett of Athol, and Charley S. Brackett of Fitzwilliam, NH. She also leaves five grandchildren, April Ropes & her husband, Dave, Damon Mahoney, Kelly Desreuisseau, Erin Mahoney and Josh Brackett & his wife, Chelsea; three great grandchildren, Tyler Boyd, Lilly Ropes and Oscar Ropes. Two brothers, Edward MacLean of Florida and Douglas and his wife Rita MacLean of Virginia. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Meserve and brothers David and James MacLean.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, September 13th at 11:30am at Fiske, Murphy, Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Fitzwilliam, NH. Calling hour will precede the funeral Wednesday, September 13th from 10:00-11:30am at the Funeral home.
