GARDNER – Roland J. Fournier, 86, of 63 Olde Colonial Drive Gardner, died Friday, August 23, 2013 at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital, Boston. He was born in Greenville, NH on November 16, 1926 the son of Joseph W. and Edith (Lacroix) Fournier.  He grew up in Greenville and was educated there. Mr. Fournier was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy.  He served on the U.S.S. Bremerton and received the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal.  He was honorably discharged on July 3, 1954. Roland was employed at the former Simond Saw & Steel Company of Fitchburg for 42 years.  He was an active parishioner of St. Camillus Church in Fitchburg.  He enjoyed making rosaries and also helped with cleaning the church for many years. In addition to being an avid reader Roland also enjoyed gardening, woodworking and jigsaw puzzles. He leaves his wife of 55 years, Gloria L. (Cote) Fournier; one daughter Marie Woodard and her husband Barry of Gardner; two sons, Mark R. Fournier and his wife Patricia of Fitchburg, Brian J. Fournier and his wife Darlene of Athol; four grandchildren, Amber Normandin of Rhode Island, Brandon Fournier of Athol, Anastasia Fournier of Bridgewater,Vt. Carasanta Woodard of Gardner; four step-grandchildren, Jason Fournier, Amber Cull-Fournier, Benjamin Cull, Andrew Cull; two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard Parish at St. Camillus Church 333 Mechanic Street, Fitchburg.  All those attending are asked to go directly to the church.  Burial with military honors will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery, Fitchburg. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Boys Town 14100 Crawford St., Boys Town, NE 68010.
