Ronald J. Laine

Ronald J. Laine Hubbardston – Ronald J. “Rocky” Laine, 76, of Mount Jefferson Road, died Thursday, November 14, 2013 of natural causes at his home.      Ronald was born January 17, 1937 in Gardner, Massachusetts, the son of Armas and Heiri (Walinen) Laine.  He grew up in Phillipston, graduating from Athol High School in 1954 and from Mount Wachusett Community College in 1956 and since the 1970’s has resided in Hubbardston. He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard.      Ronald worked for General Electric in Pittsfield as an apprentice and also went through the apprentice program at the L.S. Starrett Company in Athol where he worked as a tool maker for many years until his retirement due to illness.  He owned a farm of vast acreage in Hubbardston of low bush blueberries.      He loved skiing, hunting, trout and striper fishing, country music, softball, playing his harmonicas and guitar are among his many accomplishments.      He leaves two brothers, Daniel Laine and Paul Laine and his wife Alice, both of South Road in Templeton; a niece, Tammy Vogel and her husband Rick of South Road in Templeton; nephews, Lawrence Laine, Lloyd Laine and his wife Deidra and their sons, Corey, Cody and Andrew, Leonard Laine and his wife Rhonda and their son Ryan, all of French Road in Templeton and Lance Laine of East Templeton.  He also leaves many other family members and friends and his caretakers, Carol Haley, James Burke and Cody Laine.  Besides his parents he was predeceased by many aunts, uncles and cousins, including his grandnephew, Clayton Laine.      A memorial service will be held at the First Church of Templeton, The Common, Templeton, Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. with the Rev. William Ault, pastor officiating.  There are no calling hours and in lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in Ronald’s name be made to: the First Church of Templeton, The Common, Templeton, MA  01468.
