Ronald E. Legrand of Athol Heating Specialist, Carpenter, Farmer, Iceman and Horseman Died Monday May 23, 2022, at home surrounded by family. He was born in Athol on October 31, 1933, a son of Eugene and Ellen F. (Beeler) Legrand. He resided in Athol and attended Athol schools. He married Marilyn Green on June 19, 1954, they shared 67 years together until Marilyn passed away on July 27, 2021. They had five children together; daughter Karen Legrand who passed in 1999, son Kris Legrand (Evie), Kimberly Legrand, Kurt Legrand (Dee) and Kay-Ellen Chicoine (Leo) who all reside in Athol; eight grandchildren Sydney, Jenna, Eugene, Emma, Kyle, Hillary, Kacie and Libby and seven great grandchildren Dylan, Brady, Tucker, Morgan, Autumn, Kaeden, and Kole and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Marilyn and his daughter Karen he was predeceased by his siblings Francis, Faith (Cummings), Joyce (Gray), Eugene Jr, and Lester Legrand. He was a great horseman in his early years and a man with strong family values and loved family get-togethers. He ran a family farm along with his brother Lester, raised various animals on the farm and Christmas trees over the years, but his passion was producing horse hay. He maintained a garden on the farm with his wife and put-up vegetables and relishes along with tapping trees for maple syrup. He passed his passions on to his children and grandchildren. He was self-employed as the owner of Legrand Heating Service until retirement. He previously worked at Temple Oil, Todd’s Market, and his family’s business Athol Ice Company. He was a past president of the River Rat Race and spent many years helping to organize the annual event. Ronald’s funeral will be held on June 4, 2022, at 1:00 PM in the Fiske Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange, MA 01364. His burial will be private and no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his name to Care Central VNA and hospice 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner MA 01440.
